I know WW has recently changed their program, and I did it about four years ago, but I would swear by the old WW program. I lost about 55 lbs and I kept it off up until my husband lost his job and I had a mental breakdown (over a year). I didn't gain but 15 back and I'm now only 10lbs heavier than my lightest weight. I haven't gone back on the program because I feel like WW taught me portion sizes. I gained habits that I just kept doing. I eat off smaller plates. I fill up on more veggies. I had a chart on WW that I found helpful. I liked seeing the consistent dips.
I think overall, any program that trains you to follow good habits is going to be worthwhile (whatever your motivator). It's why I never bought into the "buy the food" programs because what are you going to do once you've lost the weight?? Plus...I discovered I prefer to eat small bits of "real" food over lots of a "diet" food. I do light in some places (sour cream, butter, milk), but I go real on just about everything else...just in smaller sizes.
(Of course, as a side note, I discovered that some of my weight issues were related to a gluten issue - I struggled for years to maintain a weight and couldn't understand why I was always hungry and lethargic and achey...turned out I have a sensitivity. I cut gluten out of my diet over a year ago and my pain went away as did some of the lethargy and my hunger issues. Go figure).
