Damn You DoOL!

DoOL is short for “Days of Our Lives.” It's a daytime soap opera here in the U.S. and I think I may have gotten myself hooked on it. But just a little part of it, if that's possible. *sigh* Okay, here's the story...

Last week was... *tries not to squick flist* ...that time of the month for me. This is a horrible week every month for me and has been for several years. I have less than zero energy and my brain seems to go AWOL and, well, I'll just leave out the rest of the horror. So last week I did my best to exercise every day. I did not reach aerobic levels but I did get off my ass every day and that, I hope, told my brain that I'm serious about getting back in shape. The majority of the remaining time in the week was spent either sleeping or moaning or bitching or surfing television. Whilst surfing one day I happened upon a Days of Our Lives episode and witnessed a scene I'd never imagined possible: Maggie Horton and Victor Kiriakis discussing loving and living together! *blinks, blinks, blinks again*

Time to confess one of my past passions.

Flash back 35 years ago, when I was a vulnerable teenager. My parents purchased a new-fangled gadget called a VCR and my mother set it to record “Days of Our Lives” and every evening after dinner she would play back the tape RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME! It didn't take long before I got caught up in the lives of the Hortons and Bradys from Salem USA.

Then life happened and I drifted away from “Days” (that's what we called it back then, before the internet and all things acronym).

Then life continued on and I found myself back under mother's wing. It was the mid-eighties and she was still recording Days and I got all wrapped up into it again. Victor Kiriakis arrived in Salem. He was 100% no-good but oh so debonair and handsome. I got all weak-kneed and gooey, “Victor, come steal me away and I'll save you from all the evil that plagues you!” But, instead, life stole me away from Victor and Salem.

Flash-forward 25 years and I find sweet, lovable Maggie Horton stealing away Victor! Yes, “steal away,” because Victor Kiriakis doesn't love women, he conquers them. And that explains my first reaction of What the heck! Victor was pleading for Maggie to resolve his heartache. Then I wondered what happened to Mickey (Maggie's, last I knew of, husband). So the past few days and nights I dug around and found that Mickey passed away about two years ago and Maggie and Victor started having an on-again, off-again relationship. And Maggie almost died trying to protect Victor. And Maggie was held captive in a sarcophagus and rescued by Victor. It's all just so damned exciting!

Well, the Victor/Maggie story is just a sub-plot or maybe even a sub-sub-plot, but it managed to snag me back into wanting to watch. I'm really only interested in seeing how it all plays out. That's why I'll be recording so I can fast-forward through all the other parts of the show. Of course that might not last too long and I'll probably eventually get hooked into other storylines. Hubby says I'm doomed and he “WILL NOT be watching that mess” with me. *pouts*

I'm ready to get caught up. I dug through soaps.com and got a list the episodes with Maggie and Victor. Hulu has episodes but only back about 17 days. I discovered the older shows are, shhhh, on youtube. I have my DVR set for new episodes. In case that fails I can catch them on Hulu.

Oh! And in my research I found out that Jennifer Aniston, daughter of John Aniston who plays Victor, might be on the show for a stint as wedding planner. I really do hope that happens because I really like her and that will be a lot of fun, I'm sure.

Victor and Maggie?! As in Evil Victor Kiriakis? Wow... I know that I have not seen a show in a year but...damn. that is...

I remember that John Aniston was on an episode of Friends before, so it would definitely be cool to see her appear on Days.

Yep, evil Victor Kiriakis. I'm having a blast catching up. It's so cute the way they bicker and joke and tease and angst. I'd love to get straight to the juicy stuff (LOL) but I'm making myself catch up in order.
