Caution: Geek Speak Ahead
August 8th, 2007 09:43 pmStill working way too many hours of overtime. The extra money is nice. I was able to add some new devices to my home network: huge NAS drive and a switch box. WooHoo! I have another external drive but it's not NAS so I had to keep it on a computer as well as my HP printer. So they got bogged down, or maybe bogged down the computer serving them. It's an old computer anyway, something like 7 years or about? Snail of a CPU, 233 MHz, but good enough for serving my P2P needs. And now the extra peripherals are totally free-standing. Way cool!
All of my free time has been spent on making the latest video. I'm not so good at showing humor, but I hope it gives any of you shippers a giggle or two. If not, do comment for me as to why. I would like to get better at having fun with the videos. Probably will have to step outside of the S/J box for that though. Not a lot of funny stuff in that area.
At work they are moving one of our servers to the inside of the company network. It currently resides outside of the company network, between two firewalls. Anyway, that customer doesn't need access anymore so we want to move it into the company network. Big deal? Not really, just that when they do I'll be able to access the applications from my VPN connection at home. Now for me to run apps I have to remote log into my work computer and run them through that. Oh yeah, terriblly slow. Anyway, I've been the last couple of nights trying to find an opensource X window utility that will do it. I tried Xming. Works for most of the apps but some of the older ones crap out because of the fonts. I hate fonts!!!!! And the Xming app must assume that anyone using it is a unix admin. Well, I'm not. So I gave up on Xming. Now I'm going to try Cygwin. I'm waiting for it to download now.
Well that's been my life these past weeks. I'm going to try and read backwards to see what I've been missing.
