Hmmph. Firefox is starting to smell a lot like MSIE lately. I'm not liking it. Instead of adding on extensions to do cool things I am now having to add on extensions to disable pain in the ass shit! So now I to have read every bit of the updates before I upgrade Firefox, assuming this was even noted. I'm also going to start looking for another browser.  Anyone got any recommendations?

Snap.com Previews
I hate these things. Web pages and posts are riddled with hotlinks and little balloons that popup ugly images of the linked page. Not only do I get these stupid things flashing at me as I move the mouse around, I also can't get the expected hotlink right-click menu. Instead I get the image right-click menu. Oh, well, I can get the hotlink menu if I can manage to right-click fast enough after pointing and get my click in before the image pops up. So I now use Adblock Plus which I guess is okay because it's good for blocking other stuff and I'll probably use it for that too.

How to disable:
  1. Install AdBlock Plus.
  2. Restart Firefox. You should get a dialog box that will let you choose a site that maintains a list. If you choose one, you're done. If you don't, do the rest the items below.
  3. Click Tools > AdBlock Plus.
  4. Add spa.snap.com/* as a new rule.
  5. Maybe restart Firefox? I did, not sure if was needed though.

Reported Attack Site!
WTF is this?? Is this some malware that got on my computer? Did I type the URL incorrectly and get a malware page instead? No, it's another feature. Firefox and Google are trying to help me. They think they can control the Internet and keep it from controlling me. No thank you, I'll decide. This love affair between Firefox and Google is the biggest mistake Mozilla made.

How to disable:
  1. Click Tools > Options > Security.
  2. Uncheck the option "Tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected attack site"

If you're running Firefox 3.0, I recommend uninstalling it and going back to the previous version. I had installed FF 3.0 and it totally sucked so I went back to an earlier version.

Yes I'm running 3.0.3. Damn! I hate reverting back on software. I am having other nits about things but I've been blaming my rural internet connection. Maybe it's FireFox.

It's FF. Ver 3.0 is more of a memory hog than the previous version.

I'm running ver 2.0.0.16 with no problems. I still have the file if you want it. I don't plan on deleting it or upgrading again to ver 3.0 until they fix all the stupid bugs.

Addendum...I now have 2.0.0.18 running on my box. You can the latest old version here... http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Thank you. I'll revert but I'm still going to look at other browsers, although I doubt there is anything out there for Windows.

I hear ya. I like me FF only because of the add-ons. I'd wither away without them.

Well, there's Opera (http://www.opera.com/) which is a free browser and is supposed to be pretty good. And you also have Safari (http://www.apple.com/safari/) which has been rated pretty well too.

Safari is ported to Windows? I didn't know that. Hmmm, I'll check that out. Thanks for the links. *hugglesya*

I don't know what you mean by ported. :S

You're welcome. :D

Oh, I guess ported isn't universal and might only be used by unix folk. It means making an application work on another operating system. I thought Safari was Mac only.

I don't think so. I read in PC World it can be used on a pc with few issues. I've never used it though so I don't know how true it is.
