I'm in a mood so, where did I leave off?... Ah!

My daughter tied the knot. It's been almost two months and she seems to be rolling along like nothing's different. They've been a solid couple for about seven years so this really isn't anything different other than the legal stuff and her having a new last name.

But it feels very different for me. When I really, really think about it I start to cry. I don't know why.

*blows nose*

And two weeks after the wedding our son tells us that he's looking to move out. Just something he and his fiance need to do. Of course we agree but we're still worried. Then, I swear it felt like, the very next day he tells us they signed a lease for an apartment in town.

In 2008, when we retired (hubby retired, I just up and quit), we sold our oversized dream house (think Mr. Blandings) and moved into a quaint little two-story out in the middle of not much going on. It was a serious adjustment.
So much that I actually bought this doormat:

Anyway, we were just getting comfortable but now suddenly this house feels big and empty. It's been a month now and I am getting better. The boy and his gal are in town and we're just outside. They still have a key. They come by when they need to do laundry. I don't feel totally abandoned.

So that cutting the apron strings thing ... I've always thought it was the parents that had to do the cutting but right now I feel like it's the kids that are doing it.

Congratulations on everything! New home, kids getting married and getting new homes.

The good thing about this? You didn't cut the strings too early! The are pulling away, and getting lives, and are ready for it. They are going to succeed, and that is the sign of well raised children.

Thank you dear. I do feel good when I see them being all "grown up" and when they hug me and stuff. I don't want to worry but I can't stop it. Maybe I'll stop in a few years. Or decades. :D
